Regarding the Sept. 29 letter "Generals on ground know best": Maybe, just maybe, the generals on the ground are too caught up in the battle to think of what is the best course of action.
Also, commander in chief is just one of the president’s titles. The other one is president of the United States and, as the president, his main duty is to look out for the welfare of all Americans. Yes, that includes education, health care and all the other things all of us so rightly enjoy.
Let’s think about making butter, not guns.
