In response to "Thousands rally against Ariz. immigration law" (article, April 27): Since the law’s signing by Arizona’s Republican governor, Democrats and the liberal media have been slamming the new immigration law.

The first thing that I have to ask is, when did it become racist to enforce laws that are already on the books? The left keeps spinning this as an attack on Mexicans when all it is is a crackdown on those who choose to break the law and come to America illegally.

I have heard this described in the same terms as Nazi Germany, but who is talking about rounding up and killing people? All they are doing is protecting Americans. Why do we as Americans devalue our citizenship so much that we would defend the criminals before we would defend our own laws?

Let’s just call this what it is: an attempt by the left to ultimately make all illegal immigrants legal and thus control their vote. This isn’t a fight about right and wrong. It is about politics. If it were about right and wrong, this debate would never have taken place because we wouldn’t have ever let the illegal immigrant issue get so far out of control in the first place.

At some point we have to stop trying to make everyone happy and simply enforce our own laws in order to protect the safety of the real American people.
