What gives the author of the March 17 letter "Home-schooling is no crime" the right to criticize the laws of a democratic country? In Germany, every child has a right to get free education, but also the duty to attend school. If parents do not agree with the education in public schools, they can enroll their children in private school but, nonetheless, the children have to attend — and it is the parents’ responsibility to make sure that that happens.
As to the liberation of Germany, that was more than 64 years ago, and that fact is taught in history lessons in every school. I don’t think we need a reminder of our own past!
