The female officer who wrote "DFAC meat market?" (letter, Feb. 19) has some legitimate concerns.

As a guy myself, I will admit guys are very visual creatures when it comes to sexuality. However, that doesn’t give any guy the right to stare so hard he’s burning a hole through the clothes of women he doesn’t know.

When you are in a close-knit unit or team, the male/female boundary is erased. You see each other as friends/teammates/brothers and sisters.

As for the females who are threatened by guys who stare, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourselves and confront the guy who is trying to burn a hole through your clothes with his eyes. If you catch someone who is obviously in la-la land, confront him. Say something like, "Excuse me, is there something wrong with my clothes?" The guy will either be so embarrassed that he won’t be able to say anything, or, if he’s half human, may offer a sincere apology, as he may not have realized what he was doing. Either way, it may be just the thing to change someone’s behavior.
