The Sterling House at RAF Fairford, England, has served the military community for many years. It is scheduled to close at the end of August.
I oppose this, partially out of self-interest, as I now go out of my way to stay there a day or two. It is a pleasant respite for Americans in Britain. It also is of great service to our active-duty community.
Few facilities have the tradition of service and continuity that we see at Sterling House. Giving this up for an imagined savings — I can’t think it would be much, if anything at all — is unwise.
