GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — Several buildings near the main gate of the U.S. Army garrison were evacuated Tuesday morning as base officials investigated comments made by a local national attempting to come on base.

Garrison spokesman Nathan Van Schaik said security officials were conducting routine vehicle inspections at Gate 3 when a man commented about the gate guards wanting to find a bomb in his car.

The garrison’s vehicle registration office and main administrative hub were subsequently closed as explosive ordnance disposal personnel and military police inspected the man’s vehicle.

No explosives were discovered, but some facilities remained closed for the remainder of the day as the investigation continued well into the afternoon.
