YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Jury members gave an airman who pleaded guilty to using Ecstasy a bad-conduct discharge and three months’ confinement at a sentencing hearing here Tuesday.
Airman 1st Class Kari Michelle Pittman also was reduced in rank to E-1 and ordered to forfeit $767 in pay and allowances for three months.
She began serving her sentence immediately, said Maj. Brandon Hart, deputy staff judge advocate for the 374th Airlift Wing’s legal office.
Pittman pleaded guilty to using the mood-enhancing, illegal drug Ecstasy at a Roppongi nightclub on April 27. A friend who was with her at the time turned her in to base law enforcement, Hart said.
Pittman passed a drug test but admitted under questioning to using Ecstasy one time, Hart said.
Pittman chose to have her court-martial heard by a panel of five jurors, all officers.
Lt. Col. Dawn Eflein was the presiding judge during the two-day court-martial, which began Monday.
Pittman was a dental technician with the 374th Dental Squadron at Yokota. She had been in the Air Force for 19 months, and Yokota was her first assignment.
