TOKYO — Foreigners, including members of the U.S. military community, are eligible to try their luck with Japan’s end-of-year lottery.

Nenmatsu Takarakuji Jumbo Lottery tickets are 300 yen each (about $3.40). There are 70 tax-free grand prizes of 200 million yen each (about $2.2 million).

The deadline to buy tickets is Dec. 22.

Other prizes range from 50 million yen (about $560,000) to 300 yen, the cost of the original ticket.

The drawings will be held on Dec. 31. Foreigners will need some Japanese-language assistance to find out whether they’ve won. Winning numbers will be posted on a lottery hot line at 03-3236-1192, in Japanese newspapers and on the Web at http://www.takarakuji.mizuhobank.co.jp/ .

The lottery ticket booths are often located outside Japanese railway stations.

Prizes must be claimed within a year of the drawing.
