Winter Guardian was a key developmental training exercise for Company C, 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment.

The exercise provided the first opportunity since the unit’s redeployment from Afghanistan to test the soldiers’ medevac capabilities in a simulated-austere environment.

The four-day exercise took place at the Heliport in Landstuhl, Germany, with flights to various locations in the surrounding area on Feb. 19-20 and Feb. 26-27, 2013.

The 421st Multi-functional Medical Battalion, based in Baumholder, and the U.S. Marine Corps Detachment from the Wounded Warrior Battalion-East, based at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, also participated in the exercise.
