Water outages in areas served by the Navy Water Treatment Plant on Guam will continue until further notice, as will “boil water” orders, as the plant labors to refill reserve tanks, Naval Forces Marianas officials said Wednesday. Recent storms have churned mud and sediment at Fena Reservoir, officials said, turning its water coffee-colored and making the plant’s filters unable to keep up - and another storm is “on the horizon.”

The Navy has been able to restore some water to Guam Waterworks Authority, Naval Forces Marianas stated in a news release. GWA customers who rely on water from Fena Reservoir, and military housing areas on or near Naval Base Guam, will receive water on a conservation timetable, the release stated.

The Navy will provide water as follows, the release stated:

• To Naval Base Guam, Nimitz Hill, and Old and New Apra Housing: shut off at 8 p.m., turned back on at 6 a.m. the following day.

• To Agat and Santa Rita: shut off at 9 p.m., turned back on at 6 a.m. the following day.

Navy personnel living on Naval Base Guam, Nimitz Hill, Old and New Apra military housing and Naval Magazine, and GWA customers, are urged to boil tap water. If it’s transparent, boil vigorously for two to three minutes; if brown or cloudy, add half a teaspoon of unscented bleach to every five gallons; let sit for 30 minutes.
