A battle considered a turning point in the 1950-53 Korean War was reenacted this week at the historic battleground about 30 miles southwest of Seoul.
About 150 American, French and South Korean veterans of the Battle of Chipyong-ni returned to see their victory restaged and to be honored by the townspeople.
Residents lined the streets as the veterans marched in. About 900 active-duty South Korean soldiers also took part in the reenactment.
The Battle of Chipyong-ni marked the first time United Nations Command soldiers succeeded in turning back the advance of the Chinese military. The battle was fought from Feb. 13-15 in 1951 and left almost 100 U.N. troops and about 2,000 Chinese soldiers dead or missing.
