NAPLES, Italy — The commander of the guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen was relieved of command Wednesday, the second Navy CO to lose his job in the past week.

Cmdr. Jay Wylie was relieved by Rear Adm. Mark Guadagnini due to “loss of confidence in his ability to command stemming from allegations of misconduct,” according to a Navy press release.

Capt. Mark Johnson, deputy commander of Destroyer Squadron 9, which the Momsen falls under, is the interim CO until a replacement is named, according to the Navy.

Wylie has been temporarily assigned to Commander Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, pending an investigation into the misconduct allegations.

Navy spokespersons would not elaborate on the nature of the misconduct.

The Momsen is based in Everett, Wash.

Wylie is the 10th Navy CO to be relieved of command this year.

On April 23, Capt. Donald Hornbeck, commander of Destroyer Squadron 1 in the Arabian Sea, was relieved as the Navy investigates allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship.
