Two captains and a chief warrant officer have been selected to represent U.S. Army Europe in the Department of Army-wide 2004 Gen. Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award competition.

The three are: Capt. Joseph M. Ewers, Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment in Baumholder, Germany; Capt. John C. Moore, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment in Baumholder; and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ryan N. Collier, Company C, 1st Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment in Katterbach, Germany.

The three had the highest rankings out of 15 winners at the USAREUR level. Seven of the 15 USAREUR winners are assigned to V Corps units.

For 15 years, the Department of the Army had given the award to officers who best demonstrate the values MacArthur stood for — duty, honor and country. The award promotes and sustains effective junior officer leadership, according to Army documents.

About 3,200 officers are eligible for the award. Winners were nominated by their commands. Officials at major commands judged the packets, assigning each officer a ranking based on their assessment.

USAREUR’s top company-grade officers, in addition to Ewers and Moore, follow. All are based in Germany unless otherwise noted.
