The U.S. military has opened a new combat outpost in the western Baghdad district of Ghazaliyah, further moving troops into the city’s neighborhoods, officials said Wednesday.
Soldiers from the 887th Engineer Support Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade and 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment finished building the new outpost Saturday, officials said.
The outpost is named Combat Outpost Thrasher and will be used by both U.S. and Iraqi forces.
