Every year, Navy commands hold selection boards to determine their top sailors. This year, two of the Navy’s top three shore sailors are from Europe.

Petty Officer 1st Class William J. Volk of Joint Maritime Facility St. Mawgan, England, was recently selected as the Atlantic Fleet’s top shore sailor.

Petty Officer 1st Class Lisa Patrocky of the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment in Sigonella, Sicily, was recently selected as the top U.S. Naval Forces Europe shore sailor.

Patrocky and Volk will travel to Washington, D.C., this month to compete against the Pacific Fleet’s shore sailor, Petty Officer 1st Class Michele Villagran of Navy Region Northwest.

The winner will be selected as the Chief of Naval Operations shore sailor of the year and be promoted to chief petty officer.

Another European-based sailor, Petty Officer 1st Class Tyrone Graves, was selected as the worldwide Military Sealift Command sailor of the year, but was not selected for the CNO shore sailor of the year competition.
