Two Department of Defense Education Activity students were selected to take part in the 48th annual United States Senate Youth Program.

Michael Zachau Walker, a junior at Ankara High School, in Turkey, and Joshua Jones, a senior at Kubasaki High School in Okinawa, Japan, will travel to Washington on March 6-13. The students will attend meetings with Senate leadership, the president, a justice of the Supreme Court and an ambassador to the United States.

The competitive, merit-based program chooses 104 students to participate every year. Two students are chosen from each state, two from Washington and two from DODEA. All students rank within the top one percent in academics for their respective states.

Each student also receives a $5,000 scholarship.

Nichole Woodcock from Menwith Hill High School in England and Ryan Resch from Ramstein High School in Germany were chosen as alternates.
