The National Guard is looking for a few gearheads to help them design a custom motorcycle for one of cable television’s most popular shows.

The Guard will be featured on an upcoming episode of The Learning Channel’s “American Chopper” series, which revolves around a bickering family of motorcycle customizers in Orange County, N.Y.

According to Guard officials, Guardsmen — particularly those downrange — are being asked to help come up with a National Guard theme and design for a chopper that will be built on the show.

The competition is open to all current Guardsmen ranked E-8 and below, Warrant Officer 1 through 3, or O1 through O3.

The winner must also have at least one year left on their enlistment or extension, and should be available to travel TDY for the filming of the episode. If travel is not possible, the winner will participate via video teleconference or remote.

Entry forms can be found at 1800goguard.com/ARNGbike or virtualarmory.com, two National Guard Web sites. The deadline for entry is midnight July 31.

Each entry must be accompanied by a 200-word essay describing the theme and design, and telling why the applicant should be chosen. Entries should include a short biography and photo of the entrant.
