CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Marine Corps Maj. Gen. George J. Trautman III, commander of the Okinawa-based 1st Marine Air Wing, has been nominated to the post of deputy commandant for Marine Corps Aviation, Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced Tuesday.

The nomination includes a promotion to lieutenant general.

Hampton has Yokosuka port visitThe USS Hampton, a nuclear-powered Los Angeles-class submarine, pulled into Yokosuka Naval Base on Wednesday for a port visit and to meet with Commander, Submarine Group Seven Rear Adm. Douglas McAneny prior to continuing its Western Pacific deployment.

After the deployment, Hampton will change homeports from Norfolk, Va., to San Diego.

Senate confirms Keating’s renomination to head PACOMThe Senate late Monday confirmed the renomination of Navy Adm. Timothy J. Keating to the rank of admiral and reassignment as commander of U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

Keating will relinquish command of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command after more than two years.

During the same confirmation process, Air Force Lt. Gen. Victor E. Renuart, Jr., senior military assistant to Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, was confirmed to be promoted to the rank of general and appointed as the new commander of NORAD and USNORTHCOM.

Expected to attend the change-of-command ceremony are Secretary of Defense Gates and Canadian Chief of the Defense Staff Gen. Rick Hillier, according to a NORAD/NORTHCOM news release.
