NAPLES, Italy — An associate producer from “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” is visiting students at four high schools in Italy.

But Walter Lewis won’t be filming stumped students for “Jaywalking” clips or gathering bad headlines from local newspapers. The purpose of his four-day visit is to talk about a producer’s career.

“It gives kids some practical exposure to real-world applications for classes they’re in; it exposes them to different career fields,” said Frank O’Gara, spokesman for Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe.

Lewis will visit high school classes involved with drama, television production, career education and media production, and any other groups the principal deems appropriate.

“He’s not going to tape anything that winds up on [the show],” O’Gara said.

“It could be that Jay Leno might pay some kind of tribute to our schools [later on a show].”

O’Gara said Lewis probably will show clips of behind-the-scenes action from the late-night talk show.

The visit is part of the USO Celebrity Education Program. The program, launched in the spring, is designed to take entertainers, comedians and artists to overseas DODDS schools to conduct workshops, talk to students and hold special events.

Lewis will visit high schools in Aviano on Oct. 20, Vicenza on Oct. 21, Livorno on Oct. 22 and Naples on Oct. 24.
