A Kanto-area scout leader and two troops earned national Girl Scouts awards in February at the 2005 Girl Scouts Overseas-Western Pacific Winter Conference in Tokyo.

Camp Zama chairwoman Cindy Streeton earned the Appreciation Pin, a national Girl Scout organization award that recognizes individuals who exceed expectations for the positions they hold, according to a Girl Scouts press release.

According to the organization, Streeton earned the Appreciation Pin by motivating volunteers and serving as a positive role model for Scouts.

She upheld the Girl Scout Promise and Law and fostered a better relationship with Japanese sister troops.

Streeton manages six troops at Camp Zama.

The overseas committees at Camp Zama and Yokota Air Base both earned President’s Awards recognizing the group achievements.

The overseas committees consist of volunteers who manage a group at a base or installation.

This was the first time the President’s Award was issued in the Western Pacific region, according to a Scout press release.

To earn the award, the volunteers helped their chapters reach or surpass certain membership goals and retained three-fourths of the volunteer leaders who did not transfer.

The organization’s board of directors chooses the winners.

The honors were handed out at the group’s Winter Conference, a convention that focuses on career development, stress management and other life skills.

About 200 participants attended from military bases around the region.
