KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The Thrift Savings Plan has issued a warning about mobile applications it says could jeopardize the security of participant accounts.

A message posted on the plan’s website Tuesday warns: “These applications are NOT sponsored by the TSP.”

The TSP, a federal retirement savings plan, earlier warned of a particular application available through Apple’s App Store — TSP Funds — which asks users for their account login information.

The TSP website, broadened its warning Tuesday, citing “a number of mobile applications that reference the Thrift Savings Plan and may prompt you for your TSP account credentials.” It cautioned TSP participants against providing those details to the apps. Providing those details “may jeopardize the security of your account.”

The warning also said the plan can’t “endorse any information or advice” given by the apps.

The TSP does not have a mobile app of its own.

Google’s Play Store for Android phones contains at least two TSP-related apps: TSP Info from developer Dominion Knight; and F.R.U. — TSP Price Tracker from Kigra Software.

Phone calls to the TSP and Apple were not returned by deadline. The developer of the TSP Funds app, iSystems Integrator, has no contact information listed on its website and could not be reached for comment. E-mails to Dominion Knight and Kigra Software were also unreturned as of deadline.
