Panthers fell short to Kubasaki in league competition and third at Far East last fall, but have a solid core of experienced runners back to take aim at redemption.

KubasakiCoach — Paul Campbell, 11th season, one Okinawa Activities Council title, one Far East meet team title.Key performers — Boys, Erik Armes, So. (reigning Far East champion); Dalton Atkinson, Sr. (10th at 2011 Far East meet); Michael Brown, Jr.; Alex Otero, So. Girls, Allie Reichenberg, Sr.; Jessica Friedman, Jr. (all-state transfer from Hickory High School, Portsmouth, Va.); Jessica Ircink, So. (eighth at 2011 Far East meet); Sam Fugate, So.; Dominique Lopez, Sr.Overview — Now in the unaccustomed position of contending after years of perpetually rebuilding. Island champion Alle Robles transferred, but Friedman slides into her place.

GuamCoach — Joseph Taitano, seventh season.Key performers — Boys, Aaron Whitaker, Sr.; Joe Cook, So.; Tyler Thorne, So. Girls, Emma Martin, Jr. (two-time All-Island runner); Isabella Oveido, Sr. (two-time All-Island runner), Quincy Tougher, Sr. (all-island in 2010); Alison Bowman, So.Overview — Boys rebuilding, girls contending. All six boys graduated or transferred. Martin, Oveido, Tougher and Bowman make a formidable girls lineup.

Seoul AmericanCoach — Steve Boyd, fifth season, three Far East meet team titles.Key performers — Boys, Ryan Parker, So.; Andrew Harris, Sr., (transfer from Maryland); Darien Briggs, Jr.; Andre Archer, Sr.; Austin Archer, Sr. Girls, Stefanie Wenzel, So.; Sally Lee, Sr. (returns after one-year layoff); Serena Fontenot, So.Overview — A rare rebuilding year for Falcons. No more Hendersons and precious few experienced leaders back.

YokotaCoach — Dan Galvin, first season.Key performers — Boys, Micah Swygert, Jr.; Sean Kavanaugh, Sr.; Derek Hooper, Sr.; James Kennedy, Jr.; Gabe Atchley, Fr.; Dan Galvin, Fr.. Girls, Abigail Wall, Sr.. (14th at 2010 Far East); Gabby Baker, Sr.; Mindy Adams, Jr.; Samantha Arnold, Fr.Overview — Reloading. Not really a marquee runner in the bunch, but enough depth to take spots in the top 20s at Far East and score enough points to make things difficult for favorites.

KinnickCoach — Rich Ringling, second season (Coached nine years at St. Maur).Key performers—Boys, Robert Beard, Sr. (third at 2011 Far East meet); Zach Yoder, Sr.; Brendan Yoder, Jr.; Brady Yoder, So.; Aaron Russ, So.; Ethan Russ, So. Girls, Carydaliz Fontanez, Jr. (sixth at 2011 Far East meet); Elisha Dareing, Jr.Overview — Rebuilding. Good pair of veteran leaders surrounded by Yoder brothers of Kinnick soccer fame, great luck in getting the Russ twins via the transfer route, good group of girls fighting for lineup spots. Losing Stephen Magnusson will hurt.

Division II

Zama AmericanCoach — Glenn Preston, first season (transfer from Georgia).Key performers — Boys, Sam Bishop, So.; Derek Stephenson, Sr.; Steven Dykstra, Jr; Cody Troxel, Jr.; Jarrell Hibler, Fr.; Carson Russell, Fr. Girls, Silvia Dykstra, Sr.; Lisa Steiner, So.; Jadalynn Haia, So.; Jessica Wenzel, Sr.Overview — Rebuilding. Trojans welcome their fourth coach in four seasons. Young squad with “definitely some potential,” Preston says.

PerryCoach — Brad Cramer, first season.Key performers — Boys, Yasuki Milsop, Sr.; Jay Cone-Murakami, Jr.; Martin Ziola, Jr.; David Eason, So.; Robert Young, Sr. (transfer from North Carolina). Girls, Kaila Knueppel, Jr.; Aimi Primus, So.; Penelope Kehr, Fr. (transfer from Colorado).Overview — Cramer becomes Samurai’s seventh head Coach in seven seasons. Six runners return. Team showing speed and promise, Cramer says.

KingCoach — Tom Heitstuman, ninth season.Key performers — Boys, Daichi Bellwood, Jr.; Steven Ball, Jr.; Juan Juvera, Jr.; Keoni Averell, Sr.; Ricky Salinas, So. Girls, Tara Long, Sr.; Jessica Hanson, Sr.; Angelica Laines, So.; Renee Racek, Jr.; Deanna Austin, Jr..Overview — The mother of all rebuilding jobs. Graduation and transfers hit hard, with brothers Kento and Kiyoshi Reynolds moving on to San Diego, Rachel Poluhowich graduating and her sister Jessica leaving for Naples, Italy.

EdgrenCoach — Andre Thibert, 10th season. Two Far East Division II team titles.Key performers — Boys, Wesley Belleman, Sr; Forrest Rodeman, Jr.; Jackson Edmonds, Fr.; Michael Roberts, Sr.; Austin Burdick, So. Girls, Madeline Cotton, Jr.; Elaine Cotton, Jr.; Taylor Rinehart, So; Erica Whitaker, Fr.; Caitlin Roth, Fr.Overview — Contending for a D-II repeat, but plenty of work remains to combine solid veteran core with newcomers to mesh into a winner.

Osan AmericanCoach — Michelle Mundy, third season.Key performers — Boys, James McGovern, Sr.; Andrew Rawlings, Jr.; Jake Brazeau, Jr.,; Eric Belcher, So.; Ryan Belcher, Sr.; Ryan King, Sr. Girls, Audrey Kim, Sr.; Libby Kim, Fr.; Erin Rawlins, Fr.Overview — Rebuilding. Some physical strength and key leadership lost to graduation or transfer, but the new runners are motivated and excited by the challenges that lie ahead, Mundy says.
