War stories have traditionally been told in movies or books. Now, they’re on T-shirts, too.

TakePride, which sees its mission as supporting the troops as well as creating clothing, has taken a story from the 42nd Military Police Company and re-told it on cloth.

In 2005, Sgt. Mike Geary was serving his first tour in Iraq, running combat patrols in Tikrit. A day after giving stuffed animals to Iraqi children near his base, Geary saw one of the boys standing in the middle the road his Humvee convoy was taking. Geary’s squad leader decided to dismount to investigate.

"The young boy grabbed the squad leader’s hand, walked him down to a spot in the road where they had been about to drive and dusted off a 155 mm roadside bomb buried in the sand. It turned out to be one of three IEDs that were daisy-chained together at the distance that their Humvees traveled apart," according to a statement from TakePride.

Now, the event can be seen in "a boy, a bear & a soldier," by illustrator named Aya Kakeda.

"The biggest influence on our future will be the children whose lives have been submerged by this conflict," says Geary, who was due to return from Iraq this month. "Their future is Iraq’s future. I think it’s important that our children in America also understand what goes on here, as it affects their lives as well."
