A Stuttgart, Germany-based soldier has been charged with premeditated attempted murder for allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend repeatedly over the head with a flashlight on May 26.
Sgt. Stevie M. Huff, 25, a mechanic assigned to 554th Military Police Company, then allegedly left the injured woman in her Hauptstuhl apartment, locked her inside and took the house key with him, according to German police.
The woman, Angelika Gruber, 28, was put into a coma by the attack but regained consciousness hours later. Neighbors heard her pleading and crying and called police, who broke down the door and found her lying in her own blood, police said.
Huff also was charged with three counts of assault consummated by battery, which allegedly occurred between May 1 and May 26 in Huetschenhausen, Hauptstuhl and Landstuhl; one count of kidnapping; and one count of adultery.
All charges relate to the same victim, according to Hilde Patton, a V Corps spokeswoman.
A date has not yet been established for an Article 32 hearing, which would determine whether a court-martial would be held and what charges Huff would face.
Patton said Huff is performing duties with his unit.
