On June 6, I went to the Ledward Barracks Andrews Federal Credit Union in Schweinfurt, Germany, to withdraw $500. I took the money and put it in an envelope, walked out of the building and drove home.

Twenty minutes later, I could not find the envelope. I looked inside the car, no luck; drove back to the AFCU, no luck.

I drove back wondering what I did with the envelope. And I never thought about reporting this to the military police: big mistake!

That same day AFCU called twice on my answering machine, but I was not at home. The next day I got in touch. Someone had found the money and turned it in. I got to the MP station, presented my ID, signed a sheet and got the $500 back.

One honest person I need to thank: Bob Minor, who is employed at the TKS shop on Ledward Barracks. Again I say thank you very, very much, Mr. Minor. A good deed deserves a reward.

Command Sgt. Maj. Ricardo R. Mercado (retired)
