CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Marine Corps Family Child Care program is looking for in-home day care providers for camps Foster, Kinser, Courtney and Lester.
The program offers stay-at-home spouses an opportunity to earn extra income and learn how to operate their own business, program director Betsy Noyes said.
Family Child Care providers must be licensed and meet the same safety guidelines as the base Child Development Centers, Noyes said.
In addition, providers are subject to unannounced monthly safety inspections by program monitors.
Before a provider can become licensed, they must complete orientation and individualized training, Noyes said. The potential provider’s home also will be inspected.
“We go out and look at the homes to make sure they meet all the requirements and the home is within base regulations,” Noyes said, adding that fire and safety personnel are included in the licensing inspection.
Once licensed, providers receive training and individualized support, Noyes said.
The program has 25 providers.
Providers set their own childcare rates — the weekly price for infant care ranges from $90 to $125, Noyes said.
