A field artillery soldier in Iraq has been sentenced to 15 months in prison, reduction to E-1, forfeiture of pay and allowances and a bad-conduct discharge after being convicted of negligent homicide and dereliction of duty.

According to military prosecutors, Spc. Daniel E. Turner, of Battery C, 1st Battalion, 142nd Field Artillery, was convicted Feb. 26 on the charges, which relate to a negligent discharge that killed a fellow soldier.

Early in the morning of July 20, 2006, officials said, Turner shot and killed a fellow soldier while clearing his M9 pistol.
