A 172nd Infantry Brigade soldier died early Monday morning after a fire occurred in his off-base residence near Schweinfurt, Germany, according to an Army news release.

The soldier, whose name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, was found unconscious by firefighters responding to the fire. He was taken to a Schweinfurt hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the release stated.

The incident is under investigation.
