There are two Sept. 11 observance events planned in England this weekend.

Elementary school pupils at RAF Alconbury will gather at their flag pole at 2:30 p.m. Friday for a patriotic assembly. What began after Sept. 11, 2001, to show respect and honor those killed in the attacks, has evolved into a celebration of all things patriotic.

At RAF Mildenhall, a park built to honor the memory of events on that day will be dedicated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The park, designed by an engineer on base, features two pine trees to represent New York’s Twin Towers, which collapsed after being hit by two hijacked airliners piloted by terrorists; a five-sided brick layout to represent the Pentagon, and mountain laurel flowers, the state flower of Pennsylvania, where a hijacked airliner crashed into a field.
