Security forces find truck with chlorine, explosives

American and Iraqi security forces averted what could have been a massive attack on a police station in Ramadi when Iraqi police captured a suicide bomber in a vehicle containing large quantities of chlorine and more than two tons of explosives.According to U.S. military officials, the arrest occurred Friday in Ramadi.“A white cargo truck came to a halt near the entrance to the Jezeera police station, located about 150 meters from a water treatment plant,” a U.S. military news release issued Sunday read.“The police approached the truck for further investigation and detained the driver when they discovered the truck was rigged with explosives and the driver was attempting to detonate the vehicle.”When the police inspected the truck, they found five 1,000-gallon barrels filled with chlorine, along with more than 4,000 pounds of explosives.“The driver is being held for further questioning and all explosives were removed from the truck and destroyed by demolition experts,” the release read.In recent weeks chlorine bombs have been used in several attacks.The gas created in the explosions can kill and sicken after the initial explosion.
