CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Investigators in the recent death of a sailor on Camp Hansen are treating the incident as a suspected homicide, a Marine spokesman here said Thursday.

Dental technician Seaman Adam J. Palecco, 21, a Hackettstown, N.J., native assigned to the 3rd Force Service Support Group, was found dead at 12:12 a.m., Feb. 4, on Camp Hansen. He was the son of Bonnie and Raymond Palecco, also of Hackettstown.

“Further details are being withheld to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” said 1st Lt. Eric Tausch.

Military police responded to the discovery of Palecco’s body and he was transported to U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa by a military ambulance. He was pronounced dead at 1:29 a.m.

“The Naval Criminal Investigative Service continues to investigate the incident,” Tausch said. “They are asking anyone with information relating to the incident to call the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Tip Line at (DSN) 645-0779.”

Anyone with information can also e-mail investigators at: oki-posse@ncis.navy.mil.

Anonymity is guaranteed, Tausch said.
