BAMBERG, Germany — The Army has identified the Schweinfurt-based soldier who died early Monday morning when a fire occurred in his off-base home as Staff Sgt. Daniel J. Vanmeter.

Vanmeter, 27, was an infantry squad leader assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Battalion.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the post chapel in Schweinfurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
