SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — Commander, Task Force 76 held its first Commanders Conference with Sasebo-based afloat commanders here April 21.

“After extended operations … in Fallujah to humanitarian relief operations off the coast of Sumatra, it is essential that we take the time now to reconstitute … so that we are aligned to maintain a culture of sustained readiness for the way ahead,” said Rear Adm. Victor G. Guillory, commander, Amphibious Task Force 76.

During the deployment, USS Essex, USS Juneau and USS Harpers Ferry conducted security and stability operations in the U.S. Central Command area (the Middle East). The Essex and USS Fort McHenry received orders to help victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami in Southeast Asia.
