A sailor was arrested Friday in Sasebo city on suspicion of trespassing, a Sasebo police official said Saturday.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Mathew Salvador Takae, 23, was taken into custody by police in Imadfuku-cho around 2:40 a.m., the official said. The sailor, who appeared drunk at the time, was on Japanese man’s property who called the police, he said.

Police said Takae was assigned to USS Essex, but various media reports said that he was visiting on temporary duty from Yokosuka Naval Base.

Takae is currently in Japanese custody and police said Saturday they plan to send the case to the prosecutors office in Sasebo.
