Flights within Italy on the discount airline Ryanair no longer will be suspended later this month, officials said. Representatives from the airline met with Italian aviation and government officials during Thursday’s security meeting and reached an agreement that all passengers traveling on Ryanair’s domestic Italian flights provide either a passport or valid EU/EEA National Identity Card.

Though they reached an agreement, officials still are haggling over the issue of whether Italian driver’s licenses will be accepted, an official from Italy’s Civil Aviation Authority said.

Some valid Italian driver’s licenses have not been updated and still are unlaminated pieces of paper instead of cards, the official said.

Ryanair had announced Dec. 23 that it planned to stop Italy domestic flights amid a dispute over the nation’s laws governing identification documents that passengers can show at airport gates, to include driving licenses, government badges, and fishing and hunting licenses. It applies to flights only within Italy.
