Naval Station Rota, Spain, was recently awarded the 2004 Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt Award for excellence in bachelor housing.

Rota was one of only 22 commands Navy-wide, and the only command in Europe, to receive the award.

The award recognizes what would be considered the equivalent of five-star commercial lodging through a formal accreditation process.

To be eligible for the award, the bachelor housing units were inspected and had to meet five-star levels in each of the accreditation areas.

This is the second year in a row that Rota has won.
