BERLIN (S&S) — Walt Disney said six American children selected in Europe as tryouts will appear in his new movie, "Emil and the Detectives," to be filmed in Berlin and West Germany this fall.
Roles were won by Bryan Richardson of Wiesbaden, David Petrychka of Munich, Ann Noland of Berlin, Bob Swann of Kaiserslautern and Rick and Ronald Johnson, twin boys from Bad Toelz.
Disney, who came here to work on details of the production, said he will fly to Frankfurt and later will go to Athens to confer on another Disney picture, "The Moonspinners," which will start production soon on Crete.
Mr. and Mrs. Disney had lunch Wednesday with Brig Gen Frederick O. Hartel, CG of the U.S. Berlin Brigade, and Mrs. Hartel; Brig R. H. Whitworth, commander of the British brigade in Berlin, and Mrs. Whitworth, and with senior officers of the Berlin Brigade and their wives at the Hartel home.
The Disneys were to meet West Berlin Lord Mayor Willy Brandt and to dine with J. Archibald Calhoun, assistant chief of the U.S. Mission here.
Peter Herold, associate producer of "Emil and the Detectives," said camera work on the picture will begin Monday in Augsfeld, West Germany, about 60 miles north of Frankfurt. The cast will move to Berlin Sept. 16 to work on the picture for about 10 weeks.
