YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Airlift Boulevard will be closed for almost three months due to construction.

Airlift will shut down between Baker and Deseversky streets from Tuesday through Dec. 14.

The road is closing for installation of steam mains, which provide heat and hot water for the base, according to Jim Robb, contract engineering flight chief of 374th Civil Engineering Squadron. A central steam heat plant will also be constructed.

The projects are part of the Japanese facility improvement program in which the Japanese government pays for infrastructural improvements at American military bases.

During construction, drivers will be detoured to Davis Street, which runs parallel to Airlift Boulevard, between Baker and Deseversky streets.

The construction area stretches from about two blocks north of the 374th Airlift Wing headquarters building to just north of the former Yokota mini-mall.
