CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Marine Corps Community Services will hold a “Recycle Wars” here Friday.

The competition is open to all status of forces agreement personnel on Okinawa.

Teams of up to eight will gather at 1 p.m. at building T-119 on Camp Foster. There, they’ll be given all the specifications of their project and have until 4 p.m. to complete their mission.

Two team members will be designated as “scroungers” and can pull material only out of the scrap piles being used, said Bruce Whisenhunt, recycling director. Another two members will be “runners,” getting the pieces back to the work area and helping the last four team members build.

The teams will put their creations to the test at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Field House during Oktoberfest. Winners are to get trophies and cash prizes.

“It’s a way to get the word out to the units on recycling,” said Whisenhunt, “and it shows them the reuse of some recycling items ... that some items have value left in them.”
