Police in Cambridge, England, are investigating a May 23 auto accident that killed the husband of an airman assigned to RAF Lakenheath.
Lincoln Warren was driving eastbound on A-14 north of Cambridge between 4 to 4:30 a.m. when his two-door Peugeot left the road and struck a tree before coming to rest in a ditch, said Murray MacGregor, press officer for the Cambridge Constabulary.
Warren, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene, MacGregor said. Warren’s address was listed as RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk. MacGregor declined to provide the name of Warren’s wife.
Senior Airman Joshua Gorman, a spokesman for the Lakenheath Public Affairs Office, confirmed that Warren was the husband of a Lakenheath airman but declined to give out further information for privacy reasons.
Gorman said he did not know if Warren were employed at Lakenheath.
MacGregor said the crash caused one lane of A-14 to be closed for six hours.
MacGregor said investigators might run tests on the vehicle, try to reconstruct the crash and run toxicology tests on the victim.
“They’ll work out what happened and give their best estimate,” MacGregor said. “I think they have a fair idea, but it will depend on their findings.”
The police report would then go to the local coroner, who will schedule an inquest, MacGregor said. The process would likely take several more weeks.
