The Pentagon has announced several general officer assignments affecting major Army and Air Force commands in Europe and the Middle East.

The Army assignments include:

Brig. Gen. Ralph O. Baker, deputy director for Politico-Military Affairs (Middle East) at The Joint Staff in Washington, D.C., has been assigned as assistant division commander, 1st Armored Division, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.Brig. Gen. Steven L. Salazar, commander of the Coalition Military Assistance Training Team in Iraq has been assigned as commander of the Joint Multinational Training Command, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.Brig. Gen. Stephen R. Lanza, deputy chief of Staff, G-3, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, has been assigned as deputy chief of staff for strategic effects, Multi-National Force–Iraq.Brig. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, deputy commander (operations) of the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq, has been assigned as G-3/5/7, U.S. Army Reserve Command, Office of the Chief, Army Reserve, Fort McPherson, Ga.Brig. Gen. Mark A. Milley, deputy commander (operations), 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan, has been assigned as deputy director, regional operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.Brig. Gen. Jefforey A. Smith, deputy commander (support), 10th Mountain Division in Iraq, has been assigned as deputy director for Politico-Military Affairs (Middle East), J-5, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.Brig. Gen. Keith C.
