MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Eight-year-old twins who saved the life of a neighbor girl last year received one of the highest honors from the Boy Scouts of America at a special ceremony here Tuesday night.
Mark and Matthew Jordan pinned on the Medal of Merit in front of their Pack 18 fellow scouts at Sollars Elementary School.
The award is bestowed for exceptional service that significantly impacts others, according to the Boy Scouts, and is the second highest a scout can receive, after the Honor Medal.
On Nov. 3, the twins acted fast to save the life of 8-year-old Nicky Cullen. Cullen’s bicycle helmet was caught on a piece of playground equipment, cutting off her breathing. Matthew dislodged the helmet while Mark ran to get help.
The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America approved the medals for the Jordan twins, officials said.
