Cmdr. Michael Lewis was to succeed Cmdr. John Zavadil as skipper of the submarine USS Houston during a change-of- command ceremony Friday on Naval Base Guam.

Rear Adm. Douglas McAneny, commander of Submarine Group 7 in Yokosuka, Japan, was the scheduled guest speaker, according to a Navy news release.

Zavadil assumed command of the Los Angeles-class submarine in January 2005. His next assignment will be deputy commander for mission readiness at Submarine Squadron 15 on Guam, the release said.

Lewis recently served as executive officer of Commander, Submarine Forces Atlantic Fleet Tactical Readiness Team.

Pacific special-ops troops get new COU.S. Army Brig. Gen. Salvatore F. Cambria took command this week of special-operations troops in the Pacific, according to a news release.

The troops work throughout the region to support U.S. Pacific Command and to train with other countries, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Cambria succeeds Maj. Gen. David P. Fridovich, who led Okinawa-based Special Operations Command-Pacific for 2½ years.

Cambria, a 31-year Army veteran, was most recently director of operations at U.S. Southern Command in Miami.
