YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The Yokota Cares Committee is sponsoring a March 1 benefit concert to raise money for the American Red Cross Tsunami Disaster Fund.

At the family-friendly event, to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Yokota Officers Club, local professional musicians will play “Broadway and American popular music,” according to a news release.

Tickets can be purchased from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 26 and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Sophie Chinese Antique Furniture Sale at the Yujo Community Center.

St. Patrick’s Day 5K scheduled

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for March 12 on Camp Foster. Sponsored by Headquarters and Services Battalion of camps Foster and Lester and the camp commander, the event is open to status of forces agreement personnel and Japanese Master Labor Contract employees. There will be individual and team categories.

Applications must be submitted before race day and can be obtained from Major Fahy at DSN 645-0862 or by e-mail at fahytm@mcbbutler. usmc.mil. Participants also can register in person at Building 5687 on Camp Foster.

T-shirts will be handed out to the first 175 applicants to the free event.

Youth center closure

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Yokota’s East Youth Center will be closed Feb. 25-May 1 for renovations.

The following is a list of alternate locations for classes and events:

Dance classes are to be moved to the West Youth Center.Piano classes are to be moved to the East Chapel.Gymnastics are canceled for March; they will resume in April at the West Youth Center.Youth sports basketball games are to be played at the West Youth Center.School Age Care Program and piano lesson payments can be made at the Kibo Child Development Center; dance/gymnastics class payments can be made at the West Youth Center.A shuttle bus for youth program members will run between the East and West Youth Centers from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Scholarship available

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The Yokota Officers’ Spouses’ Club is seeking college scholarship applicants.

Yokota High School seniors and spouses who are continuing their education can find eligibility requirements and application forms at www.yosc.org.

The application deadline is noon March 18.

Sesame Place passes

Yokota Air Base residents can grab free passes to visit Tokyo Sesame Place on Feb. 26 and 27.

Passes allow one-day entry for three people to the 13th Annual Working Vehicle Show, to the park itself and, for children younger than 12, the new Mutsugoro Animal Kingdom petting zoo. Entry to the zoo for all others is 700 yen (about $6.65).

Pick up passes while supplies last from the Family Childcare Office, the youth centers, child development centers and the Yujo Recreation Center.
