NAHA, Okinawa — A 26-year-old Camp Hansen Marine was in Okinawa police custody Monday on a charge of attempted robbery, an Okinawa police spokesman said.

A police report says Sgt. Franklin Hurtadorios, assigned to the 3rd Marine Logistics group, pointed a knife at an employee behind the counter at an adult-entertainment shop about 4:55 a.m. Saturday in the Tsuji district of Naha and demanded money.

Before the incident, Hurtadorios was a customer in the shop, which police declined to describe other than as an “adult oriented” business. He allegedly paid the tab and started to leave, but instead turned around, pulled a jackknife from his pocket and demanded cash, said a spokesman for the prefectural police’s Naha Police Station.

The clerk called police, who say they found Hurtadorios still inside the business. He was taken into custody for questioning at 5:15 a.m.

The police spokesman said no one was injured during the incident. A charge of attempted robbery was referred by Okinawa police to the Naha District Public Prosecutor’s Office on Sunday, he said.
