An unidentified man attempted to abduct a young woman at about 7:30 p.m. April 1 near the Marine Corps Exchange, according to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The air station did not release a description of the man or any further details of the incident but said it is searching for witnesses who could provide leads in the case.

"The intent is, if there was anybody in the area, for them to contact [the provost marshal’s office] because they may have an important piece of info," Master Gunnery Sgt. John Cordero said. "It might not seem important, but it could be important to the investigation."

Anyone near the Marine Corps Exchange, station telephone office or Building 658 between 7 and 7:30 p.m. April 1 or with incident information, can call the PMO anonymously at 253-3303.

Meanwhile, the PMO warned base residents against walking alone at night and accepting rides from strangers.
