MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Wakasa Teen Center is taking applications through March 2 for Teen Aviation Camp at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., this summer. Applicants must be high school sophomores or juniors next fall and interested in attending the Air Force Academy or making the Air Force a career. The camp runs June 4-9. Essays sought for contest

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Lunney Youth Center is taking entries for the Armed Services YMCA Essay Contest through March 10. Children of active-duty or retired servicemembers in first through 12th grade are eligible to compete for U.S. savings bonds. The essay topic is “What you like to read.” Entrants in grades one through eight should write an essay of 300 words or less; entrants in grades nine through 12 should write essays of 500 words or less. Restaurant closed for lunch

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Los Guerreros Mexican restaurant will be closed for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday due to a power outage. The restaurant is to reopen from 4 to 8 p.m. Call DSN 222-4MEX.

Youth center holds lock-in

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Children ages 9 to 12 may sign up for the March 18 “Youth Lock-In” March 18 at Lunney Youth Center. The event runs from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and includes food and games. Participants are asked to bring a sleeping bag. Children of deployed servicemembers have first priority. Sign up by March 16. Call DSN 226-3220.
