KADENA AIR BASE — USFJ and Fifth Air Force Commander Gen. Bruce Wright was scheduled to arrive at Kadena on Tuesday, according to an Air Force spokesman.

Wright is scheduled to meet with senior officers, attend mission briefings and tour the base through Thursday.

The general has visited the base three times before but this is to be his first official visit as Fifth Air Force commander.

Diabetic support group

The U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa is hosting the monthly diabetic support group meeting at 5 p.m. April 14 in Classroom 1 on the hospital’s second floor. Diabetics and their family members are encouraged to attend.

This month’s guest speaker will be Lt. Monique Gordine-Shaw, staff podiatrist, speaking on foot care for diabetics. Contact the hospital’s Nutrition Clinic at DSN 643-7502 for more information.

Band to entertain at fair

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Army and Air Force Exchange Service has scheduled performances of Okinawa’s Nishihara High School 100-member marching band on April 16 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the soccer field next to Foster Field House.

The band has won gold medals and grand-champion honors from events around the world, including those in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States.

The performances are to coincide with the AAFES Furniture Fair in the Foster Field House from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 15-17.

Furniture styles and materials including Chinese, Korean, American, teakwood and rosewood are to be sold. A special rosewood furniture auction is planned for Saturday afternoon.

Special Olympics fun run

Kadena Air Base is hosting a Special Olympics 5k fun run/walk April 16 at the Risner Fitness Center. The entry fee is $10; registration is to begin at 8 a.m. and the run/walk at 9 a.m.
