The U.S. Military Postal Service assigned new ZIP codes for units and troops serving in Iraq.

The changes, which went into effect Oct. 5, include 10 new ZIP codes. Seven ZIP codes will remain the same.

According to the military postal service, the intent of the new ZIP codes is to get mail faster to troops assigned to large units.

“… Large units may move around and it can be difficult for soldiers and their families to switch ZIP codes every time the unit jumps to a new location,” said Capt. Taro Akagi, Coalition Forces Land Component Command forward postal officer in charge.

“As the theater becomes less fluid … some soldiers may benefit by switching to geographic ZIP codes, especially if those soldiers are not co-located with a unit,” Akagi said.

Family and friends using ZIP codes 09302 and 09372 to send mail to V Corps and 3rd Corps Support Command units should now use the new ZIP codes that reflect the individual’s actual geographic location within Iraq.
