Col. Chuck Salvo will assume command of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service-Europe during a change-of-command ceremony July 16 at Wiesbaden Army Airfield in Germany.

Salvo replaces Col. Forrest C. Wentworth, who has commanded AAFES-Europe since July 2005. Wentworth moves on to Tampa, Fla., where he’ll take over as the logistics division chief for operations at Central Command.

Salvo comes to AAFES-Europe from a position as chief of force integration for logistics, Headquarters, Department of the Army. He arrived at Army headquarters out of the Army War College, and prior to that commanded the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division’s 203rd Forward Support Battalion for 36 months, including a yearlong deployment to Iraq.

2nd Cav soldier killed by bomb in Iraq identified

The Defense Department has identified a 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment soldier killed by a roadside bomb last week in Iraq.

Staff Sgt. Du Hai Tran, 30, of Reseda, Calif., died in Baqouba of wounds suffered when a roadside bomb detonated near his unit while on patrol, a DOD news release stated.

Tran was assigned to the Vilseck, Germany-based 2nd Cav’s Fires Squadron, the statement said.

The time and date for a memorial service for Tran has not been set, Army officials said.
